Beach villa Ayu is a spacious 3-bedroom beachfront villa nestled between fishers’ cottages and is lovingly hosted by a local family. The Villa can comfortably be booked in its entirety for a group of 7 guests or by individual room.
Each bedroom features a queen-sized bed, air-conditioning, and individual rain shower bathrooms. All three rooms are newly renovated split-level spaces, with private seating nooks, table and chairs.
Beach Villa Ayu is located in the fishermen village and nestled between other fishermen houses/cottages. That means ‘village life noises’ will be part of your stay. There is a road between the Villa and the beach itself. The villagers make use of the roads, but we feel that the traffic is relatively low. But that is something to bear in mind when you are checking out our place.
In 2020, house Ayu was still an ordinary fisherman bungalow.
Ayu and her family have been living in the fishermen’s village “Sumberkima Beach” for several generations. Whereas the fishermen’s village has always been able to support themselves with income generated from fishing, the decline in overall fish population and an increasing number of internal prawlers in the region is making things more and more difficult. The community has been faced with decreasing fish population and threats from large international fishing prowlers, the fishing village direly needs to identify new sources of income.
Ayu started working in the hospitality industry nearby in 2018 and slowly gained knowledge but also managed to save a small fund to start her own project in the village. They started to build their own homestay at the beach and soon realized that they needed more help.
In 2020, while traveling in Bali, Ed & Yvon and their partner Cengiz came across Sumberkima Beach and were welcomed by Ayu and her family. During their stay, Ayu voiced her concerns and that is how the first of our community development project for the Sumberkima Beach came to materialize.
The projects is aimed to help co-develop eco-tourism destinations making the best use of local resources, knowledge and passion that provide guests with the opportunity to participate in local activities and initiatives. Keep an eye on us as we continue to grow and help the local communities.
As part of a community development project initiated by People & Planet, Villa Ayu is the first local cottage to be renovated under our care. Our aim is not to develop a 4-star resort, but to let people experience real Bali village life, and help the local communities.
Now, it is the first in a series of our social and environmental development projects along Sumberkima Beach.
